WCS Projects Approved by Committee

Here are the projects reviewed and approved by the World Community Service Committee, awaiting final approval from the Bellevue Rotary Board of Directors-

1. Funding for the Rotary Club of Patan's Scholarship Endowment Fund - $1,000 approved.

This will provide scholarships for five underprivileged children in Kathmandu, Nepal. These funds donated will fund yearly scholarships for each of these children throughout their remaining school years. This will be combined with $500 being donated by Emerald City RC and wired to RC Patan. RC Patan is now our official “Twin Club” recoginzed by Rotary International.

2. Ethiopian Water Project - $5,000 approved.

Our donated funds will be part of this multi-club and multi-district project which will provide clean water to 25,000 people in this country. The total cost of this project will total nearly $400,000 with various matching funds.

3. Water Well Project in Vietnam with "Care To Help" Organization - $3,000 approved.

This will be our own well project and with these funds, "Care To Help" will be constructing a well in a needy community. We'll be getting updates and photos while the well is being constructed so this should be a very exciting opportunity for us.

4. Prosperity Rings Foundation with Nancy Pasternak- $3,000 approved.

We will once again have an opportunity to fund Nancy's worthy micro-credit project in India, helping many impoverished women gain financial independence through small loans that create jobs and businesses for them.

5. BCC Rotaract & Bellevue RC Cooperative International Project - $2,500 approved.

This amount will match funds raised by the BCC Rotaract Club to be put towards organizations in Nepal benefiting disabled & orphaned children. Rob Rose is very excited to have this chance to work together closely with Peter Kirov and the BCC kids on a cooperative project that will have impact beyond the funds that we'll raise.

6. Hurricane Relief in the Grand Cayman Islands - $1,000 approved

* * *

These 6 projects total $15,500. This year's budget is about $21,500, with a possibility of several thousand dollars in additional funding coming through later in the year. We will have a minimum of $6,000 left in this year's budget. We have a number of other projects that are being researched.
