Total grants to date: $20,000; Camp Goodtimes, a summer camp for children with cancer, was given a booster shot of fun, when Bellevue Rotary came to camp in 1997. Bringing with them a carnival with games, booths, food and makeovers by hair stylists and face painting artists, the event was described as a "blast". Everyone had fun. The Bellevue Rotary Carnival is now an annual event. Each year, one hundred and thirty campers and fifty Rotarians have lunch together at camp. Then the kids run out to the field to ride the Gyrotron, drive monster trucks, wrestle in Sumo suits, eat cotton candy, and stand in line to have hair (or bald heads) sprayed in day-glo colors. Recognizing the value of this camp for young cancer patients, in 2000 Bellevue Rotary established an $80,000 cabin endowment. The interest on this account will each year underwrite the cost of camping for 10 children. 2003 Carnival date is June 26. Club donation of $2500. R Adventure Camp is the Rotary Adventure Camp that started in 2001 with a grant of $10,000 from Bellevue Rotary. "R" Adventure Camp offers a week long kayaking trip in the San Juan Islands for teens and young adults 17-25 who have cancer. 2002 Camp was July 21-26. Club donation of $10, 158. Holiday Fund donations provided $10,153 to the Overlake Service League to provide holiday food and gifts to 25 Eastside families.
