THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM
Rob Rose
Bellevue Rotary Club
"Rotary In Action — Changing the World for People With Disability in Nepal!"
Bellevue Rotary Club
Bellevue Rotarian Rob Rose will be talking to our club about his latest journey to Nepal this past March/April and his "dream-project" to help uplift the lives of people with disabilities in Nepal during Rotary years 2009-2011.

This project helped kick-off Rotary Nepal's new District-3292 in July of 2008, with far-reaching and long-lasting benefits to those with disabilities who are on the lowest rung of the societal ladder in Nepal.

There are currently 75 Rotary Clubs and 50 Rotaract Clubs in Nepal! Rob's goal is to partner clubs in Nepal with clubs in the USA, one-to-one to work on projects to help People With Disabilities (PWD) in Nepal. In addition, District 3292-Nepal has joined with District 5030 on a Rotary Foundation 3H Grant (3H = Health, Hunger & Humanities). The 3H Grant is being utilized to create a comprehensive multimedia disability-awareness campaign. Getting clubs all across Nepal actively working on projects to aid people with disabilities will bring a level of awareness to the subject that has never been achieved. Add to that the overall awareness campaign from the 3-H Grant, and there is an opportunity to make a real difference for Nepal's community with disabilities, who have long suffered under the oppression of discrimination and segregation.

Bellevue Rotary Club is the direct project partner on this $330,000 Rotary Foundation 3H Grant project with the Rotary Club of Patan in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Rob has been a Rotarian in Bellevue Rotary Club for 24 years and was originally a Rotary Exchange student to Calcutta, India, in 1974 at the age of 16. He has coordinated ten Rotary Foundation matching grants in both Nepal and India and has traveled to Nepal 11 times. He was awarded the Service Above Self award by Rotary International in 2007 and was honored to receive the award of District 5030 Rotarian of the Year from District Governor Jesse Tam at the 2009 district conference in Victoria, B.C. He has been our Bellevue Rotary Club Rotarian Of The Year twice. Rob has been a program speaker at many Rotary clubs in the USA, India and Nepal and was a featured speaker at Rotary International's 100th Anniversary convention in Chicago in 2005.

The Search Is On!
For the 2011 Auction's Primary Beneficiary
Joel Cambern, 2011 Auction Committee
As we look forward towards our annual Bellevue Rotary Auction for 2011, we face the opportunity and the privilege of identifying our Primary Beneficiary for this important event. This is a challenging task, due to the fact that there is a vast number of worthy organizations within our community that would benefit greatly from the generosity of our members, donors, guests, and sponsoring partners.

We are currently seeking applications from local nonprofits and charities that we may be able to partner with, and we need your help. Our club members are very active throughout the community and interact regularly with organizations which meet the criteria that we are looking for. We are reaching out to our members for leads, recommendations, and introductions to these groups.

Ideally, the applicants will:
  • be local
  • have a specific capital need which can be addressed through our "Fund a Need" Campaign
  • have the capacity to partner with us in audience development and donor procurement
The application deadline is July 30th. We intend to have our 2011 primary beneficiary identified by early next month, so we are very anxious to get those applications in and to start the interview process.

If you have an organization in mind, please contact Alan Fulp, Joel Cambern, or any member of the Auction Committee ASAP for details on how to have an application submitted.
