Jim Hogue
The Bellevue Rotaract Club at Bellevue College is raising money via a raffle for Ella Mae Cuffey, one of their members who is having a kidney transplant in the near future. The funds will help pay for transportation and other costs of bringing Ella Mae's sister (the donor) to Seattle.

Clifford Harmon, who has attended our meetings for the past several months, will be selling the raffle tickets after our meetings on March 18th and March 23d. Of Slogans & Social Marketing—Passion & Change
Gina Rose
Everyone filed into the J. Walter Thompson Agency conference room that afternoon to attend the agency presentation and discuss the elements of the second phase of the Rotary Nepal Disability Awareness Campaign (RNDAC). Attendees were the members of the District Committee, account and PR managers, JWT managing partners, investors and Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Rob and I. The first phase of the RNDAC consisted of TV, radio & print ads bringing the message to the community about people with disabilities, that "We are all Able," and a little help makes a big difference in the daily lives of PWD.

Bulletin Image
The most popular Nepali movie actor, Rajesh Hamal, is featured as the spokesperson and the opinion leader in the campaign. This next phase will drive the message deeper into the community through billboards, leaflets, pamphlets, street theater, and even school copybooks with a cartoon strip depicting a situation where a child with a disability is interacting with his classmates and excels in various subjects. These activities work in tandem with the outreach projects and Rotary club-to-club matching projects that benefit the PWD.

Events will be planned that will highlight the capabilities and showcase talent of PWD's, while at the same time providing entertainment and exposure to the community. The discussion was very passionate and energetic; I thought I was transported back to my Colgate Palmolive or Comcast days, where we gathered in the "war" rooms and hashed out the creative execution of the current campaign. It's great to see such involvement and, I kid you not, this campaign echoes the voice of a group that wants to make a difference in the lives of the PWD, in the lives of their development and as a contributing segment to the welfare and growth of a nation trying to forge a new path towards democracy.

Rotary District 5030 Conference, May 14-16
Leslie Lloyd
Calling all Bellevue Rotarians! Don't miss the most-overlooked fun time in Rotary!

Registrations are underway for the 2010 District 5020 Annual Conference. This annual get-together is one of the most valuable ways to engage in Rotary. The District Conference offers excellent fellowship opportunities and a glimpse of the great work of other clubs in our area. Located in Portland, OR, this year's conference offers excellent speakers, lovely accommodations, and a great walkable city to enjoy, during the best time of the year to enjoy it.

Keynoters this year include Marvin Hamlisch, Grammy and Tony award winning composer, and Deepa Willinham, a California Rotarian with an inspiring story of saving children. As she puts it, "Rotarians' actions are a perfect example of how the power of one can work, changing the life of one child, one community, one village at a time."

Sidebar activities include: motorcycle ride to Portland, pub crawl, Powell's Book Store tour, a visit to the Japanese Arboretum, and much more.

Don't miss this chance to learn more about Rotary and enjoy the fellowship of some really great people. This is a must-do for any new Rotarians. And, all you "seasoned" Rotarians? You will enjoy it, too. Promise!

Registering is easy just go to:  www.rotary5030conference2010.org/
Or, if you’d prefer to make plans by phone, contact at Neale Weaver at 206-954-2560.
