In response to queries after last Tuesday's terrific presentation by Dr. Linda Venczel:
Zinc is an essential trace element that is a component of or can activate more than 70 enzyme systems. It’s important for creating new brain cells, growth, repair, carbohydrate tolerance, certain hormones, regulating inflammatory cells, bone health and your immune response. In short, it’s essential for growth and your resistance to infection. Inadequate zinc in the diet is an important worldwide health problem affecting poor children in developing countries. ~ Joyce Shaeffer

Valentine Auction at Evergreen Court
Daphne Tai
Our "Service to Mature Adults" committee sponsored a Valentine Auction at Evergreen Court on February 10. Evergreen Court is an affordable retirement home in Bellevue, which counts as one of its residents the aunt of our fabulous member Robert Rose.

We gave each senior $2,000 paper money to bid on auction items. The very popular items were wine, little hamster toy, alarm, and restaurant gift cards. Some seniors were very happy to get the items that they could not normally afford to buy, but which they got them from this auction with paper money. Many seniors told us they had a wonderful time at the auction.

We are planning on some other activities such as senior visitation, a theater play, and a visit to the zoo for these mature adults.

Rotary District 5030 Conference, May 14-16
Leslie Lloyd
Calling all Bellevue Rotarians! Don't miss the most-overlooked fun time in Rotary!

Registrations are underway for the 2010 District 5020 Annual Conference. This annual get-together is one of the most valuable ways to engage in Rotary. The District Conference offers excellent fellowship opportunities and a glimpse of the great work of other clubs in our area. Located in Portland, OR, this year's conference offers excellent speakers, lovely accommodations, and a great walkable city to enjoy, during the best time of the year to enjoy it.

Keynoters this year include Marvin Hamlisch, Grammy and Tony award winning composer, and Deepa Willinham, a California Rotarian with an inspiring story of saving children. As she puts it, "Rotarians' actions are a perfect example of how the power of one can work, changing the life of one child, one community, one village at a time."

Sidebar activities include: motorcycle ride to Portland, pub crawl, Powell's Book Store tour, a visit to the Japanese Arboretum, and much more.

Don't miss this chance to learn more about Rotary and enjoy the fellowship of some really great people. This is a must-do for any new Rotarians. And, all you "seasoned" Rotarians? You will enjoy it, too. Promise!

Registering is easy just go to:  www.rotary5030conference2010.org/
Or, if you’d prefer to make plans by phone, contact at Neale Weaver at 206-954-2560.
