Bellevue Rotary Haiti Relief Efforts
President Rich Herzberg
We're all learning of the devastation in Haiti from the recent earthquake and the very serious challenges being faced by the survivors. I've heard from a number of you asking how you can help.
Our Bellevue Rotary Foundation will accept donations from interested members. I'm mindful of the number of things we already ask you to support. Consequently, there is no expectation, nor will there be any "push" for donations. However, if you'd like to help, bring a check to Laurie Larson at our next meeting or mail it to Rotary Club of Bellevue, PO Box 523, Bellevue, WA 98009. Your check should be made payable to "Bellevue Rotary Foundation," with a notation of "Haiti relief." All funds collected will be disbursed to Rotary relief efforts in Haiti.
Separately, our World Community Service Committee is examining whether they can allocate any of their remaining funds to support this effort as well.
Thank you for your consideration.
President Rich and Board, thank you very much for the generous donations to The RotaCare Free Clinic-Bellevue.
When all volunteer hours, medications, pro bono lab and imaging services, in addition to consultations, are added, we multiply your donations by 28-30 times. Therefore, you have allowed us to give about $340,000 in medicines and services to those in our communities who need our help the most.
Again, on behalf of these patients, thank you.

Chairman, Bellevue Rotary RotaCare Committee
Chairman, RotaCare Free Clinic- Bellevue Administrative Council

Rotary & Anisha Display Beneficiaries’ Products
Nancy Pasternak
On the occasion of this year’s Prosperity Rings visit to India, the Rotary Club of Tiruchy and Prosperity Rings partner ANISHA gathered the beneficiaries of a Matching Grant of $45,000 to demonstrate their entrepreneurial successes. Over 60 ladies were beaming as they displayed the products involved in their businesses—businesses that have been made possible with micro credit loans from the Matching Grant funds.
John Peter, CEO of the loan facilitating agency ANISHA, explained the working of the various SHG (self help groups) in and around Tiruchy and highlighted the benefits derived by the ladies who are now able to support their families. Many of the ladies spoke passionately and powerfully about how the loans had improved their condition and their desires to expand and diversify their business ventures.
Tiruchy Rotarians will provide free training to the beneficiaries through the existing ROTECH Institute. The Rotary Matching Grant was made possible through the efforts of Bellevue Rotarian and Prosperity Rings President Nancy Pasternak. It was launched in 2007 as a combined effort of the Rotary Clubs of Bellevue and Seattle and the Rotary Club of Tiruchy and distributed $45,000 to 311 rural women. The 100% repayment enabled the funds to revolve and assist 1,277 women beneficiaries, to the tune of $158,000 today.
All parties involved are ecstatic about the overwhelming increase in the value of these funds, given as micro credit loans, and the ability to empower more and more women as entrepreneurs.
