Sam McLeod, Author, Storyteller, and Rotarian
"Is It The truth?" A funny story about the conflict between being an author/storyteller and a Rotarian bound by the Four-Way Test
Sam McLeod is an author, storyteller, and fellow Rotarian. He and his wife Annie live on a farm near Walla Walla.
Since moving from Seattle to Walla Walla in 2004, Sam has written and self-published three books — Welcome to Walla Walla, Bottled Walla, and Blue Walla — and has just completed a fourth book — a memoir about growing up "southern" — that will be published by Simon & Schuster this coming May.
Sam's writing opened the door to storytelling. Sam now tells his stories to audiences large and small — civic groups, government organizations, student groups, senior centers, and book clubs. Sam also tells his stories as part of a live variety show called Neither Here Nor There — a Walla Walla-based show full of stories, music, poetry, special guests, skits, and audience participation.
Many of Sam's stories appear in the newspaper column he writes for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin called "View from the Porch" and in his blog under the same name at www.sammcleod.net.
The first young patient has had cleft palate surgery as part of our Rotary project in Nepal. On December 4, 4‑year-old Purnima Tamang received the surgery to complete her cleft lip and palate. She is the first of 25 patients who will be treated by the doctors in Nepal, thanks to funding by BRC's World Community Service Committee, the Rotary Clubs of Edmonds and Lake Forest Park, and my own organization, TRIFC.org.
Rotary Holiday Fund
Julie Arnevick
The Overlake Service League is partnering with us again this year to provide food and presents over the holidays for over 200 needy families. The service league provides over 125 volunteers, and the Bellevue Christian Church donates space to make this possible.
Marilyn Herzberg from the Overlake Service League will join us this week for our Rotary Holiday Fund Kick-Off. Last year, Rotarians averaged $112/person. Our goal this year is to have 100% participation. Give what you can. Any gift is greatly appreciated. Make your donations today and let's get into the holiday spirit early.
Bellevue Rotary will be relocating for a special Holiday Program on Tuesday, December 15. We'll be meeting at the newly expanded Hyatt Regency Bellevue this day only, in a larger-than-usual room, so we can host Rotarian spouses and partners.
Jot this change in location down on your calendar, and invite your spouse or partner to attend as your guest. RSVP your guest's name to Laurie Larson so we can get an accurate lunch count. Our program will feature holiday music, and parking will be validated.
