THIS WEEK's PROGRAM

Dr. Amalia Cudeiro
Bellevue School District Superintendent
"Bellevue Public Schools -- Achieving Our Vision: Excellence For All"

Dr. Amalia CudeiroCurrently Superintendent of Bellevue Public Schools, Dr. Cudeiro was previously co-founder and partner in the firm Targeted Leadership Consulting. Prior to Targeted Leadership, she held the positions of Deputy Superintendent in Boston Public Schools and principal and teacher in California. She has been a Master Practitioner at UCLA and has a doctorate and masters degree from Harvard University, where, for the last four years, she has served as Adjunct Professor.

In naming Dr. Cudeiro, the Bellevue School District Board of Directors said they had been looking for an instructional leader, a bridge builder, and someone who would challenge leaders in an intelligent way, and that all candidates met their criteria. The board said that Dr. Cudeiro "brings an exceptional and unique aspect to this job, based on her personal and inspirational story of immigrating to the US from Cuba, learning English, and eventually earning a doctorate from Harvard. She will be an inspiration to parents and students. She has a track record of building strong teams and working with teacher and administrator teams. She would like Bellevue to be the model in the United States for how schools can close the achievement gap."

DIFFERENT LOCATION FOR
DECEMBER 15 MEETING
Invite Your Spouse or Partner!

Bellevue Rotary will be relocating for a special Holiday Program on Tuesday, December 15. We'll be meeting at the newly expanded Hyatt Regency Bellevue this day only, in a larger-than-usual room, so we can host Rotarian spouses and partners.

Jot this change in location down on your calendar, and invite your spouse or partner to attend as your guest. RSVP your guest's name to Laurie Larson so we can get an accurate lunch count. Our program will feature holiday music, and parking will be validated.

Holiday Bell Ringing

by Liz Swanson

The Holiday Season is almost upon us — shopping, snow, egg nog, and ... bell ringing! Many of you have already signed up for this annual activity, which is fantastic — thank you very much! However, there are 3 or 4 slots still available. Please take a look at the openings and see if you can work one of the shifts into your schedule.

When you look at the sign-up page, you'll notice all the shifts do have names by then; however, in some cases there is only one person listed, and we prefer to have at least two people per shift. It's more fun to do this with someone, so please consider joining with your fellow Rotarian. This is a great, short, one-hour activity and probably could be combined with a little shopping, proving both uplifting and time-efficient in the busy Holiday season. Bell Ringing is December 5 and 6, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day, outside of Nordstrom, in Bellevue Square.

Also, there is a Salvation Army Bell Ringing Orientation on Thursday, November 19, 8:30-9:30 a.m., at the Eastside Salvation Army, 911 164th Avenue NE, Bellevue. As I mentioned previously, there's a bit more to know than just standing by the kettle. The orientation covers what to do with the kettle at the beginning and end of the day, answering questions by donors, and security issues (yes, sad to say, some people do try to steal the kettle.) The orientation will also include a brief tour of the Salvation Army office. If you have not already contacted me about this, please let me know whether or not you can attend the November 19 orientation so the Salvation Army can plan accordingly.
