Dan Rasmus
Futurist, Speaker, Writer, Poet & Author of "Listening to the Future"
Daniel W. Rasmus is a futurist, a poet and the author of Listening to the Future. Rasmus analyzes trends in technology, society, education, labor and economics to devise scenarios that have been used by Microsoft in developing products for tomorrow's work force. Rasmus serves as Chairman of Bellevue College's National Workforce Center for Emerging Technology advisory board, and is a visiting fellow at Bellevue College for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Rasmus coordinated the Microsoft® Office Information Worker Board of the Future, an advisory panel composed of college-aged students who share ideas on how to better serve the Millennial Generation as they join the workforce.
Rasmus is involved in a number of industry and public sector events, including The National Association of Workforce Boards, the National Educator's Workshop, and The Front End of Innovation. He was recognized as a Distinguished Speaker by the Microsoft Executive Briefing Center in 2007 and was given the One Microsoft Award in 2008 and 2009.
Before joining Microsoft in October 2003, Rasmus was an analyst with Forrester Research Inc. His achievements included inventing conceptual frameworks for enabling the future of work, including adaptive workspaces and intelligent content services.
As a technology writer, Rasmus has worked on staff at PC AI Magazine and Manufacturing Systems Magazine, and has been a columnist for several other publications. He has authored nearly 200 trade journal articles and four books, including Listening to the Future, published in 2008 by Wiley. His next book, Management by Design, will be available in 2009.
Rasmus attended the University of California at Santa Cruz and received a certificate in intelligent systems engineering from the University of California at Irvine.
With the rising concern over the spread of H1N1 flu, our greeters will give you a warm welcome as you enter our meeting room each Tuesday, but they will not be shaking hands with you. Your club’s Board of Directors is making this change out of concern for everyone’s best interests. ~ President Rich Herzberg

A BIG thanks to all of you who have signed up for the annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing! For those of you who haven’t yet signed up, there are still shifts available, so CLICK HERE NOW to select your shift. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and take part in the spirit of the season by giving and helping those less fortunate. Bell Ringing is December 5 and 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, outside of Nordstrom in Bellevue Square. Shifts are one hour each, with two people or one family/group per shift, please.
NOTE: For all Bell Ringers, please mark your calendars for a Salvation Army Bell Ringing Orientation on Thursday, November 19, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Eastside Salvation Army, 911 164th Avenue NE, Bellevue. Okay, so some of you are thinking: it’s just ringing a bell, what more do you need to know than that? Well, it’s a bit more than standing by the kettle — and we actually don’t ring a bell because of noise ordinance. The orientation covers what to do with the kettle at the beginning and ending of the day, answering questions by donors and security issues (yes, sad to say, some people do try to steal the kettle.) The orientation will also include a brief tour of the Salvation Army offices. Please contact Liz Swanson (Ph 425.761.6721) regarding whether or not you can attend the November 19 orientation so the Salvation Army can plan accordingly.
