THIS WEEK's PROGRAM

Blaine Millet & Clay Loges
Social Media for Executives
"How Executives Can Use Social Media to Build Stronger Businesses"

Social Media for Executives is a consulting firm that specializes in building "executable" Social Media Strategies for businesses. Their focus is on helping Business Owners, Executives and Business Leaders develop a "Social Media Business Strategy" that can be easily and quickly executed. Social Media for Executives helps organizations in three areas: 1) Increase Sales; 2) Build greater Awareness; and 3) Improve Customer and Employee Loyalty.

Blaine Millet
Blaine MilletBlaine is a Co-founder and Principal at Social Media for Executives and also the author of the leading edge book, Creating and Delivering Totally Awesome Customer Experiences. This book was the first of its kind to create an entirely new way of helping organizations acquire and retain their customers at significantly higher rates. His innovative approach was the first of its kind to link the customer experience to the processes in the business, creating increased customer loyalty and retention.

Blaine also co-founded Customer Experiences, Inc., a consulting firm that helps organizations build "totally awesome" customer experiences and customer loyalty. Combined with his efforts at Social Media for Executives, he is able to help organizations create more awareness (more prospects and customers) and retain these valuable relationships longer.

Blaine started his career with IBM after graduating with his MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Utah. He has had the opportunity to work in organizations from "start-up" through the Fortune 100, including eight years with Andersen as part of the "Big 5." His experience has encompassed dot.com startups, IBM, Andersen, Grant Thornton, Sprint and his own consulting firm. His focus has always been on helping businesses increase sales, build differentiation and create unsurpassed customer loyalty to position them as leaders in their industry.

Clay Loges
Clay LogesClay is a Co-founder and Principal at Social Media for Executives and is a highly accomplished serial entrepreneur who began his business career working with computers for IBM and then new product development for Washington Mutual. Early in his career, he left the corporate world to found and build multi-unit chains pioneering the Speedi-Lube quick oil chain concept in the Puget Sound area and then built a second chain in the Bay Area of northern California. After acquisition, these chains are now operated under the Jiffy Lube brand. Typical of many of his businesses these chains were game-changing, disruptive concepts in their day.

Clay's career continues to be based on the pioneering of other new services. He has built and operated an 800+ employee telecom business with networks in Russia, Belarus, and Uzbekistan; and he founded and operated a classic rock radio station in St. Petersburg, Russia. As you can detect, his approach typically involves original thinking that disrupts established practices to create new business opportunities.

Clay's career also includes the management of multiple advertising agencies and a producer of corporate films. During the heyday of cellular, he was a principal in a chain of 30+ retail outlets serving as master dealers for cellular services, including T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T. Clay is also the CEO of Yodio — short for "your audio" — a web-based service that allows people to enhance their digital photos by adding their own voice commentary. This easy-to-self-produce service provides rich media content for Social Media users and was selected by PC World as one of the 25 sites to watch.

A Change for Our Greeters

With the rising concern over the spread of H1N1 flu, our greeters will give you a warm welcome as you enter our meeting room each Tuesday, but they will not be shaking hands with you. Your club’s Board of Directors is making this change out of concern for everyone’s best interests. ~ President Rich Herzberg

The Ability Experience, October 30

On behalf of the Bellevue Rotaract and the Bellevue College Disability Resource Center, all Bellevue Rotary members are cordially invited to:

THE ABILITY EXPERIENCE
(Your Way to Experience How "We Are All Able")

Date: Friday, October 30, 2009
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Location:
Gymnasium (G Building) & Lounge Area (C Building)
Bellevue College
3000 Landerholm Circle SE
Bellevue, WA 98007-6484

Since it is the mission of both the Bellevue Rotary and Bellevue Rotaract to promote disability awareness at home and abroad, the Bellevue Rotaract, in conjunction with the Bellevue College Disability Resource Center, has designed an interactive day of adventure, fun and learning, where students and community members are able to "walk in the shoes" (at least temporarily) of someone who has a physical disability. There will also be challenges and dares!

Here are just some of our planned "experiences":

  • Wheelchair obstacle course
  • Wheelchair campus navigation challenge
  • Walker obstacle course
  • Wheelchair basketball free throw challenge
  • Sighted guide training
  • Writing your name in Braille
  • Activities for daily living with a disability

This event will be the capstone activity to the month long celebration of appreciating the abilities in all people in which the Bellevue Rotaract has been co-sponsoring and vigorously participating. We hope to make THE ABILITY EXPERIENCE a success and initiate it as an annual event going forward.

As a thank you for your generous spirit toward and the inspiration you have given us, we, the Bellevue Rotaract, would like to personally extend a warm invitation to every Rotarian to be participant or observer at the THE ABILITY EXPERIENCE. Since it is an ongoing open event, you can stop by as you please and stay as long or as short as your schedules allow.

We hope to see you there! If you have questions, contact Rani Thykkuttathil.

Polio vaccinations in Ethiopia and Literacy projects in Uganda showed me how Rotary has a worldwide impact. The women's shelter across the street shows me that Rotary is also vital in Bellevue! — Bill Ptacek

Holiday Bell Ringing

by Liz Swanson

A BIG thanks to all of you who have signed up for the annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing!  For those of you who haven’t yet signed up, there are still shifts available, so CLICK HERE NOW to select your shift.  Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and take part in the spirit of the season by giving and helping those less fortunate. Bell Ringing is December 5 and 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, outside of Nordstrom in Bellevue Square.  Shifts are one hour each, with two people or one family/group per shift, please.

NOTE:  For all Bell Ringers, please mark your calendars for a Salvation Army Bell Ringing Orientation on Thursday, November 19, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Eastside Salvation Army, 911 164th Avenue NE, Bellevue. Okay, so some of you are thinking:  it’s just ringing a bell, what more do you need to know than that?  Well, it’s a bit more than standing by the kettle — and we actually don’t ring a bell because of noise ordinance. The orientation covers what to do with the kettle at the beginning and ending of the day, answering questions by donors and security issues (yes, sad to say, some people do try to steal the kettle.)  The orientation will also include a brief tour of the Salvation Army offices. Please contact Liz Swanson (Ph 425.761.6721) regarding whether or not you can attend the November 19 orientation so the Salvation Army can plan accordingly.
