Camp Korey at Carnation Farm Fellowship Barbecue
by TJ Woosley

A beautiful, historic, gracious place, wonderful people, delicious barbecue on a sunny afternoon — what more could one ask for? “Not much!” thought a little over 50 Bellevue Rotarians, families and guests who attended the Camp Korey Fellowship Family Barbecue on September 26.
Camp Korey, our primary auction beneficiary for 2009, donated the use of their beautiful venue for our event. Bridge Stewart, a descendant of the Carnation Farms founder, gave tours of the carriage house, buildings and artifacts of the Carnation Farm. Kids played, adults shared great conversation, and everyone ate very well!
A special thanks to all involved with Camp Korey, including our own Jim Hebert and Sally Gray, for making this event possible, and also to David Hayward of Carolina Smoke BBQ for such delicious fare.
Remember, Camp Korey has a Fall Festival and Corn Maze throughout October. Check it out!

The generous spirit of our club was clearly demonstrated at our meeting last week. We raised $267 for the Salvation Army by passing the kettle around the room. This is fantastic—thank you! Now, just think what more we can do for the Salvation Army if we encourage others to help fill the kettle, too. Please take moment now and sign up for our annual Holiday Bell Ringing program. Yes, it’s only October, and yes, December seems so far away, but the time will be here before you know it, so why not get it on your schedule now? This is a great project, too, for all you red badgers!
Bell Ringing takes place December 5 and 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, outside of Nordstrom in Bellevue Square. Shifts are one hour in length and will be two persons or one family or group per location, per shift. So, sign up with a friend or bring family members with you. The hour you spend can help make a huge difference in the lives of many Eastside families.
If you have any questions, please contact Liz Swanson (Ph 425.761.6721).
Do you know of any non-Rotarian young professionals who’d be great for GSE in early 2010?
District 5030 is looking for 4-5 young professionals (ages 25-40) currently not in Rotary who are interested in developing professional and leadership skills during a month-long Group Study Exchange to Bolivia. Anticipated dates are April 11-May 9, 2010. All costs are covered by Rotary. If you know of someone who would benefit from such an exchange have them check out gse.rotary5030.org. Applications are due October 12, 2009, and can be found at this website.
