THIS WEEK's PROGRAM

Howard Lincoln
Chairman & CEO, Seattle Mariners

Howard LincolnA key player in the formation of the ownership group that saved the Seattle Mariners in 1992, Howard Lincoln was named chairman and chief executive officer on September 27, 1999.

Mr. Lincoln retired from his position as chairman of Nintendo of America, Inc., to devote his full efforts to the Mariners on February 14, 2000. He joined Nintendo as its senior vice president and general counsel in January 1983. In February 1994, he was elected to the board of Nintendo of America, Inc., and appointed chairman of the company.

Philanthropy plays an important role in Mr. Lincoln’s life. In addition to his strong support of the Mariners Care Foundation, he is a trustee and former chairman of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. He was the 2003-2004 Campaign Chair of the United Way of King County. He is also a member of The Washington Roundtable and Board of Trustees of Western Washington University and serves on the boards of ArtsFund and the Bellevue Boys & Girls Club.

Mr. Lincoln is a graduate of the University of California of Berkeley, and holds a law degree from Boalt Hall, the University of California School of Law. Following graduation from law school, Lincoln served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1966 to 1970. He practiced law in Seattle from 1970 to 1982.

Lincoln lives on Mercer Island with his wife Grace. Their son Brad and his wife Kim have two young sons, Ethan and Benjamin.

More cowbell for Rotary!More Cowbell for Rotary!

Keep looking for the cowbell on your table (there are 5 of them) to bump others' fines, and remember to bring your ticket stubs from arts attendance — museums, theatres, music, etc. — as putting one in the basket is allowed in lieu of a fine. Click here to let your Sergeant at Arms know of a fellow Rotarian’s fineable antics.

Rotary Fall Golf Event, September 16We have reserved 32 spots for our Annual Fall Golf Fellowship on Wednesday, September 16, at the Bellevue Golf Club. The cost will be about $80.00 for carts, golf, prizes and a barbecue after the event.

We will again be playing a "Scramble," and our first tee time is 11:30 AM. We will fill the first 32 spots on a first come, first served basis.

Please contact Bad Hunt if you have any questions.

Calling All Bellevue Rotary Photogs!
Leslie Lloyd

Calling all BRC photographers! We’re taking extra effort to document our activities for the coming year – and for posterity!

Please submit your photos from fellowship or service activities, such as Camp Goodtimes, President’s Celebration, Rotary First Harvest, Fireside, golf outings – any and all events of the Bellevue Rotary Club. We will use them for the District Assembly in Portland next year, and they will also be preserved for all time by our resident historian, Stu Vander Hoek.

It’s simple: all you have to do is email your digital images to:

photos@bellevuerotary.net

Be sure to include the names of all the people in each photo.

If you’d prefer, you can copy your photos to a CD or thumb drive and give them to Leslie Lloyd at a Rotary meeting.

With your help, the BRC will have a rich display of club activities for next year’s conference – and for all time

.

Wicked, October 1, ParamountBack by “Popular” Demand. The New York Times calls WICKED “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster,” and when it first played in Seattle in 2006, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Since its Broadway debut five years ago, it has won 20 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, WICKED “is a phenomenon that keeps growing” (LA Times). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for “the most complete and completely satisfying new musical in a long time.” (USA Today)
