THIS WEEK's PROGRAM

Anna Cummins
Olympic Gold & Silver Medalist & 3-time FISA World Champion
"Solid Foundations in Sport, Health & Business"

Have you ever wondered what it takes to win an Olympic Gold? Beijing Olympic Gold and Athens Silver Medal winner Anna Cummins, a Bellevue native, will share her triumph, inspiration and story of athleticism. Anna’s story of "Solid Foundations" takes you through the essential ingredients for success that lead to triumph on her Olympic journey and beyond. You will be inspired by her message to take your health and business to the elite level!

Anna CumminsAnna Cummins  (formerly Mickelson) raced with the United States Rowing Team for eight years.  She is a three-time world champion in the women’s eight-oared shell, and set a world records in 2004 and 2006. At the 2004 Olympic Games, Ann and her teammates in the eight won a silver medal, the first medal for the US in the event in 20 years.

A tri-varsity athlete in high school, Cummins captained the cross-country, basketball and track teams and earned 12 varsity letters at Bellevue’s Newport High School. The rowing team at the University of Washington recruited her for her height and athletic build. With Cummins' help, the UW Varsity crew won four NCAA national titles.

Anna CumminsCummins continued to race internationally after the Athens Olympics, with her eyes set on gold in Beijing. She doubled up at the World Championships and the Olympics by racing both the pair and the eight, the only athlete on the team to tackle such a schedule. She won four World Cup medals in the pair and qualified the boat for the Olympics in 2007. Ending her career in an impressive fashion, Anna and her teammates in the eight rowed away from the field at the 2008 Olympic Games to win the gold, a first for the United States since 1984.

After achieving her athletic goals, Anna and her husband, Dr. Bob Cummins, opened Cummins Chiropractic & Wellness in Factoria. Bob is also a world champion rower. The Cumminses have gold medal health as a goal for all of their patients, as well as for their community.

Fine-Free Forbes FactFine-Free Forbes Fact

Too few are the exemptions from pesky Sergeant Fines. Alas, here is one any Bellevue Rotarian can take advantage of, but it requires some sleuthing: find out a fact about our Administrative Assistant, Lisa Forbes, share it with Sergeant At Arms Roxanne Shepherd, as well as bulletin@bellevuerotary.net, and be fine-free for the day the fact appears in the bulletin!

Wicked, October 1, ParamountBack by “Popular” Demand. The New York Times calls WICKED “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster,” and when it first played in Seattle in 2006, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Since its Broadway debut five years ago, it has won 20 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, WICKED “is a phenomenon that keeps growing” (LA Times). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for “the most complete and completely satisfying new musical in a long time.” (USA Today)
