Leland Teng, MD
"Update on the Swine Flu"
Leland Teng is Medical Director of the VM Executive Health Program and serves on Virginia Mason’s Pandemic Flu Preparedness Committee.
Leland’s life is an example of America as the Land of Opportunity. His parents came over from China in the 1940s for post graduate training. They were fleeing the Communists and had expected to stay only for a few years. Dr. H.C. Teng completed his medical residency in Dallas. The family was almost deported in the 1950s when their student visa was expiring. Fortunately, their pastor put in a request and then-Senator LBJ intervened with the INS to let the family stay. Leland is one of 4 sons, and 7 doctors in Dr. H.C.Teng’s direct descendants.
Leland did his primary care internal medicine residency at the UW. Clinical practices have ranged from 2-man offices to large multi-specialty physician groups. He has served on the Executive committees for the Bellevue Clinic and Medalia Healthcare and was Medical Director for Internal Medicine at the Bellevue Clinic. Leland has always sought to promote improved patient-physician interactions. In 2001, he joined Virginia Mason’s concierge medical program at the "Lewis and John Dare Center." Unlike private practice concierge medicine programs, the Dare Center offers members personalized primary care that is fully integrated with the hospital and clinic specialists. He now does house/office/hospital calls and can even accompany patients to specialist appointments. Dare physicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Cocktail Party at the Herzberg Home
All Bellevue Rotarians, spouses, and partners are graciously invited to an evening cocktail party at the home of Incoming President Rich and Marilyn Herzberg, on Hunts Point, Thursday, August 6th, from 6:00–9:00 pm, to celebrate summer and share some fellowship, as the new Rotary year gets going!
More information is forthcoming. Contact TJ Woosley to RSVP.
Too few are the exemptions from pesky Sergeant Fines. Alas, here is one any Bellevue Rotarian can take advantage of, but it requires some sleuthing: find out a fact about our Administrative Assistant, Lisa Forbes, share it with Sergeant At Arms Dale King, as well as bulletin@bellevuerotary.net, and be fine-free for the day the fact appears in the bulletin!
Camp Goodtimes Offers Two Sessions — Need Volunteers!
SAVE THE DATE! |
Camp Goodtimes is now offering 2 sessions: June 28-July 4 and July 26-August 1. We expect over 200 children with cancer to come to camp this year. For this to happen, we need 140 volunteers and have been working very hard to find applicants. If you have kids over 18, friends, or employees who might be available either week, ask them to go to www.campgoodtimeswest.org to apply on line.
In addition to cabin counselors, we need program staff and support staff. The camp is on nearby Vashon Island, the cabins are modern, the beach is wonderful, and everyone who comes has a great week. Contact Charlotte Ellis for more information.
