Fred Wright
CEO of The Driver Training Group
Fred Wright is CEO of the Driver Training Group, the parent company of SWERVE Driver Training and SWERVE Fleet Training. Since taking the helm in 2004, Fred has guided the company from a “Cardboard Box Desk” start-up to a leader in the driver education field with thirty classrooms throughout Puget Sound and over 75 employees. The Driver Training Group’s mission—and Fred’s personal passion—is to change the way people drive.
The Driver Training Group, based in Redmond, WA, has experienced 2,600 percent growth since 2005 and expects to grow 100 percent in 2009. SWERVE Driver Training (the B2C arm of the company) has trained thousands of teen drivers, preparing them not just for their license exam but a lifetime of collision free driving.
SWERVE Fleet Training (the B2B arm of the company) began in 2007 and has trained fleet drivers across the nation. SWERVE Fleet has helped national brands like Allstate, Comcast and Amazon build a safe-driving culture, saving them both money and lives.
In 2007, the Driver Training Group founded Drive Nice Day, a statewide day of awareness to encourage Washington drivers to take greater responsibility behind-the-wheel. Last year, Governor Gregoire proclaimed the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend Drive Nice Day throughout the state.
As the President of the Professional Driving School Association of Washington, Fred is dedicated to raising the standard of driver’s education throughout all of Washington, a key component to making our roads safer.
Before joining the Driver Training Group, Fred founded Who’s Calling, a call-measuring and monitoring service. He and his wife Kathy have four daughters and a pug name Quincy. They divide their time between Sammamish and Olympia.
Upcoming Tour of the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center
The Environmental Committee, with the assistance of Jim Price, has organized a field trip at the recently completed Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center on Saturday, April 25th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. All Rotarians and guest are welcome to join the tour, which will begin at 9:00 am with a guided walk through the slough, followed by a 10:00 am tour of the new facilities. Jerry Henry, Puget Sound Energy, and Park Ranger Christina Dyson Farrell will be our guides.
The new Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center provides a grand entrance to the Mercer Slough Nature Park. Completed in October 2008, the complex features classrooms, a visitor center, a community building and a "tree house," all sustainably built. The City of Bellevue and the Pacific Science Center offer year-round education about wetlands and nature for adults, youth and families at the center.
For more information, please contact BJ Rasmussen.

Volunteer Opportunity with Rotary First Harvest
On March 14, and every second Saturday of the month, please consider volunteering at Northwest Harvest from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, at 22220 68th Ave S in Kent. If you plan to attend, please alert David Schooler (Ph 425-455-8167).
REMINDER: District Conference May 1-3, Victoria, BC
NEED CLUB PHOTOS! |
||
If you have not yet signed up for the District Conference, please do so soon. The exchange rate is now favorable, making the excursion less expensive. You can register online here at the Rotary District Website.
Note that due to the difficult economic climate, the registration has now been reduced by $25.00 per person. If you have already registered and paid the initial registration fee, you will be given a $25.00 refund at the check-in.
The main emphasis is FELLOWSHIP and FUN. There is a Thursday Golf Tournament and a Thursday night Pub Crawl. If you don't do well in the tournament, you might especially enjoy the Pub Crawl. There will also be a winery tour and a tour of the Buchart Gardens. You can also explore the historic waterfront and Chinatown.
