Mr. Lenny Wilkens, Lenny Wilkens Foundation
THOMAS N. "TOM" HANSEN, MD
Thomas N. Hansen, MD, joined Seattle Children’s in October of 2005 as CEO. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Hansen received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, with postdoctoral fellowships in neonatal medicine at Baylor and in pediatric pulmonary disease at the University of California, San Francisco. Formerly Dr. Hansen served as Chairman and CEO of Columbus Children’s while retaining his title of Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. During his ten-year tenure, Columbus became one of the nation’s five largest free-standing children’s hospitals and one of the ten largest pediatric research centers.
Dr. Hansen is working closely with board members, physicians, staff and the community to significantly expand the hospital’s clinical and research capabilities to support a growing need for the specialized services that Children’s provides to the region. He leads the organization with a bold vision of becoming the best pediatric hospital in the nation.
Dr. Hansen is a member of the Seattle Chamber Community Development Roundtable, and currently serves on the Boards of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle Science Foundation.
LEONARD "LENNY" WILKENS
Leonard (Lenny) Randolph Wilkens brought his family to the Pacific Northwest in 1968 when he was traded to the Seattle Sonics and they have lived here-ever since. After a career as one of the great playmakers in basketball history Lenny was inducted into the Hall of Fame (1989) as a player. In 1979, Coach Lenny Wilkens brought the Seattle Sonics to their first and only NBA Championship. Coach Wilkens led the Dream Team to a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics, and in that same year, Lenny was the first NBA coach to record 1,000 regular season NBA victories! His success in coaching is unmatched today with more wins than any other coach in NBA history, receiving the Hall of Fame award the second time for coaching, in 1998.
Since 1984, Lenny and his wife, Marilyn have generously worked to support families in the Northwest and founded the Lenny Wilkens Foundation to provide basic healthcare and education to culturally diverse communities in the Northwest. The Lenny Wilkens Foundation has raised over $2 million dollars for the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Lenny, Marilyn and their family, devote their time and.

Attendance Make-Up Policy For Club Meetings & Events
The BRC Board has recently adopted this formal club policy to clarify what types of Rotary meetings and events you can use for make-up credit. Keep in mind you have two weeks on either side of the actual meeting you miss to claim a make-up. The following information is in addition to the standard club and EClub Online makeups:
A CONTEST: What is Bellevue Rotary? We are looking to develop a “tag line” to describe our Rotary Club, something we could make a permanent part of the Bulletin in the header or footer. Ideally, it would also be something we could use as an “elevator speech,” a short, one-line statement that rolls out easily and describes the character, spirit, enthusiasm, and dedication to service expressed by our members and our club. We are asking all of you to give us your best ideas! Submit your tag line to the Public Relations Committee (c/o Gail Ryder) within the next three weeks. The Committee will choose the best tag lines, and submit them to the Bellevue Rotary board for adoption as the official motto for our club. Besides fame, the creator of the winning tag line will be awarded a very special prize! |

Ten Grands Piano Performance at Benaroya Hall
Ten Grands features ten grand pianos and ten concert pianists playing a variety of classical and modern pieces both simultaneously and individually. This years performance will be Friday April 3rd at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. The featured pianists include well known musicians such as "NW Jazz Cat" Tom Grant; Gold record performing artist David Lanz; and composer and Steinway signature artist Michael Allen Harrison. Most of the artists playing for the Ten Grands concert have donated their time for this event for over 10 years. They believe that music does make a difference in children’s lives.
Concert proceeds benefit The Snowman Foundation which, through an affiliation with the arts organization Poncho, donates the fund to benefit Puget Sound area music programs in schools and community centers. Funds are also used to purchase and refurbish instruments for young people as well as purchase pianos for schools and organizations in need.
The BRC is able to get tickets in both the $100 seat section and the $60 seat section (family oriented). If you would like to attend this event, please contact T.J. Woosley or Chris Porter and let them know how many tickets you would like. Sign-up sheets will also be on the tables at the Tuesday meeting. Checks should be made payable to "Ten Grands Productions," and tickets will be available for pick-up at the regular Rotary meeting on February 24.
