B. Jean Floten
President of Bellevue Community College
"Update on the BCC"

B.Jean Floten, BCC PresidentB. Jean Floten has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Community College District VIII and President of Bellevue Community College since June 1, 1989. Prior to coming to BCC, Mrs. Floten was Executive Vice President at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington. Mrs. Floten previously served as Dean of Student Services and Director of Student Programs at Edmonds. Mrs. Floten holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University. She has taught speech, communication skill, and forensics at Mt. Hood Community College and Portland State University.

Mrs. Floten currently serves on the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Key Bank Advisory Board, the Technology Alliance Roundtable, the Executive Committee for the Center for Information Services, the Capital Committee and the Operating Budget Task Force for Washington Community and Technical Colleges, and the national advisory board for Educational Testing Service.

Mrs. Floten’s most recent awards include Certificate of Appreciation for Community Leadership and Development, the Bellevue Rotary; the John L. Blackburn Award for Exemplary Models of Administrative Leadership; Best of Bellevue – Best Improvement to Educational Opportunities Award; Puget Sound Business Journal Women of Influence Award; ACT Pacific Region Equity Award; ACCT Charles Kennedy Equity Award; Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization – NAFSA Association of International Educators; Bellevue Chamber’s Eastside Economic Leadership Award; Washington Research Council’s Pathfinder Award, the Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges President’s Award, Leadership Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, District VIII, and the Public Official of the Year award by the Municipal League of King County. Mrs. Floten is often called upon to speak throughout the state, nation and internationally on technology issues, college programs, and other major issues impacting community colleges.

Special Olympics Ski Competition

shareyourspiritThe 2009 Special Olympics ski competition at Snoqualmie Pass will be held Saturday, January 31. Please mark this date on your calendars. Spouses, friends and children (typically over 14) are welcome. This event makes for a great family Rotary outing.
