Bellevue Rotarian Rob Rose
"3-H Grant"
Bellevue Rotarian Rob Rose will be providing an update to our club on the Nepal Disability Awareness Campaign which launched this past July.
This project is a truly spectacular event to kick off Rotary Nepal’s new District 3292, which launched in July of 2008 with far-reaching and long-lasting benefits to those with disabilities who are on the lowest rung of the societal ladder in Nepal.
Currently there are 64 Rotary Clubs and 49 Rotaract Clubs in Nepal, and Rob’s goal is to partner each club in our district with a club in Nepal to work on projects to help those with disabilities in Nepal in the 2008-2010 Rotary years. In addition, Nepal’s District 3292 has joined with District 5030 to implement a $330,000 Rotary Foundation 3-H grant (Health, Hunger & Humanities Grant). The 3-H grant will be utilized to create a comprehensive disability awareness campaign. Getting clubs all across Nepal actively working on projects to aid people with disabilities will bring a level of awareness to the subject that has never been achieved. Add to that the overall awareness campaign from the 3-H Grant, and there is an opportunity to make a real difference for Nepal’s community with disabilities, who have long suffered under the oppression of discrimination and segregation.
Rob also has a Rotary Group Trip to Nepal planned for this coming February 16th to March 3rd, and all Rotarians, their spouses, and families are invited to come along. There are already a number of people confirmed, so be sure and let Rob know soon if you’d like to go, too! The Nepali Rotarians are warm and hospitable. The trip will include Rotary project visits, sightseeing, and two volunteer days in Kathmandu. The Rotary friendships you’ll make, along with the history and scenery in Nepal, will make for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Rob has been a Rotarian in the Bellevue Rotary Club for 23 years and was originally a Rotary Exchange student to Calcutta, India, in 1974, at the age of 16. He has coordinated eight Rotary Foundation matching grants and many international club grants in both Nepal and India and has traveled to Nepal eight times. At last year’s District Conference in Idaho, Rob was awarded the Service Above Self award by Rotary International – one of 146 awards presented worldwide. This year, he was chosen Rotarian of the Year by our own club.
Brian Wade, West Seattle Rotary, has this to say about Rob’s Nepal program: “Rotary at its most fundamental and best! Stunning photography of Nepal and heartwarming accounts of Rotarians ‘doing good in the world’ through service to those who need it most ... a truly memorable program.”
New Administrative Assistant: Lisa Forbes
