THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

Dino Rossi
President, Forward Washington

Bulletin ImageDino Rossi is the President of the Forward Washington Foundation, a non-profit, non-partisan foundation launched in May of 2006, dedicated to increasing public awareness of issues affecting the future of Washington State, its citizens and its economy. Forward Washington is focused on state-level issues such as improving the business climate-especially for small and medium-sized businesses, responsible state budgeting, accountability in state government and protecting the poor and the vulnerable.

Dino was the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Washington’s 2004 election. Prior to that, he served from 1997 to 2003 as state senator for the 5th Legislative District in east King County. As chairman of the Senate Ways & Means Committee in 2003, when Washington faced the largest dollar deficit in history, Dino successfully wrote and won bipartisan support for a budget that didn’t raise taxes and still protected the most vulnerable. Dino is a successful businessman who started in the commercial real estate business in the early 1980s. He is also co-founder of the Eastside Commercial Bank.

The son of a public schoolteacher and a beautician, Dino paid his way through college by working as a janitor and graduated with a business degree from Seattle University in 1982. Dino and his wife Terry live in Sammamish and have four children.

Camp Goodtimes, June 28
Charlotte Ellis
The Rotary Carnival at Camp Goodtimes is the highlight of the summer for area children with cancer and their siblings who attend camp. Bellevue Rotarians and their guests make this day possible.

This year, our theme is The Circus, and we hope everyone will get makeovers from our Gene Juarez stylists, back for the 10th year.

Camp is held on Vashon Island; take the Fauntleroy Ferry. Come mid-morning and plan on spending the day. You will have as much fun as the kids! We have lunch at camp with the campers and stop for pizza and beverages at Rock Island Pizza before heading for the 6:00 pm ferry back to Seattle. Look for more information and sign-up sheets in May.

Presidential Membership Conference
Chris Offer, PDG & Chair, Presidential Membership Conference

Rotary International President (2007-08) Wilf Wilkinson invites clubs, districts, and Rotarians to a Presidential Membership Conference in Vancouver, BC (Richmond) on Friday and Saturday, August 10-11, 2007.

Rotarians from Canada, USA and international delegates will attend this outstanding event. This conference is one of only seven Presidential Membership Conference being held by RIP Wilf Wilkinson. Targeted to Rotary clubs, this conference will focus on the need for change and practical ways to increase membership, retain existing members, and extend Rotary through new clubs.

Keynote speakers will include RI President Wilf Wilkinson, Past RIBI President John Hockin (from the UK) and an exceptional line up of speakers with experience in membership development. Speakers will include a non-Rotarian exploring changing community demographics and volunteering trends. The conference will feature interactive roundtable discussion opportunities to exchange ideas and best practices.

Who should attend?

  • Club membership committee chairs and members

  • Club presidents and club officers

  • District membership committee chairs and members

  • District Governor, DGE, DGN, AG and past officers

  • All Rotarians enthused about strengthening Rotary

Conference details, agenda, list of speakers, hotel information and registration are all available at www.RotaryEvents.ca. Preferential hotel room rates are available and for those areas served by WestJet there are discount flights available.

Many clubs see this conference as an investment in their club's future and are paying the registration and expenses of the club president and club membership chair. A net increase in the club's membership will recoup these costs.

I hope to see you in August at the Presidential Membership Conference.
