Emory Thomas, Jr., Publisher
"New Developments at the Puget Sound Business Journal and in the Printed Media Industry"
Emory Thomas, Jr., is publisher of the Puget Sound Business Journal, named by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers as one of the top business weeklies in the country. Thomas served as editor of the newspaper for two years before becoming publisher in April 2006.
During his varied career, Thomas has served as a business journalist in both the print and online arenas, and as a publishing entrepreneur. He first moved to Seattle in 1996, when he was recruited from The Wall Street Journal to join MSNBC at its launch. As MSNBC.com rose to become the web’s top rated news site, Thomas produced frequent online reports and did regular on-air segments with CNBC. He left MSNBC in 1999, co-founding two small publishing companies and serving as vice president of Business.com, which just recently was purchased by publishing giant RH Donnelly for $360 million. Immediately prior to joining the Business Journal, Thomas was an editor at MSN Money, Microsoft’s leading financial web site.
Early in his career, Thomas joined the Atlanta Business Chronicle, where he twice won the prestigious national Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism.
Today, he lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle with his wife, Laura, and their two children. He has been active for years in youth sports coaching, most recently through Seattle PONY baseball and CYO basketball. He serves on numerous community boards, including the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, ArtsFund and Junior Achievement.

Thank You From the Overlake Service League
The BRC recently received this thank you note from Bev Reil, Director of Programs for the Overlake Service League:
On behalf of OSL, thank you so much for your facilitation of our Rotary connection through Overlake Service League's Adopt a Family holiday program for 2007-2008. It is because of your gracious generosity that OSL continues to strenghten its connections with the community.
Thank you so much for your $9,145.00 contribution.
As I shared at the luncheon, $.93 of each dollar goes directly to the services and programs that OSL offers, so your donation is being well spent.
Thanks again for the two wonderful lunches at the Harbor club and the opportunity to tell the stories of the people we serve. I look forward to connecting with you again next year.

Ten Grands Performance
David Laub
Ten Grands features ten grand pianos and ten concert pianists playing a variety of classical and modern pieces both simultaneously and individually. There is a concert in Seattle at Benaroya Hall on Saturday, May 17, at 7:00PM.
Concert proceeds benefit The Snowman Foundation, which in turn benefits youth service groups, helps generate scholarships and music lessons for disadvantaged youth in Oregon and Southwest Washington and helps purchase pianos for schools and organizations in need.
For the first time, Ten Grands is taking its show on the road; specifically, taking it north to Seattle. In addition to raising funds for The Snowman Foundation, this performance will also benefit PONCHO (Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural and Charitable Organizations). The organization strives to create a diverse and expansive community which celebrates and supports the vitality and variety of the arts.
If you would like to attend this event, please email David Laub at and let him know how many tickets you would like.
