Update on Nepal Situation
Rob Rose

I know that many of you have been hearing and reading about the current situation in Nepal in the various news media. In the email below, I have an update from a friend who has been helping with the very successful pen pal project that we have undertaken. He gives a very personal perspective to the problem. Please keep Nepal in your thoughts and prayers.

From: Jitendra Rajbhandary
Date: April 14, 2006 5:58:49 AM PDT

I have received total of 28 penpal letters. I will print it coming Sunday and will try to hadn it over to children at earliest opportunity.

Regarding situation here, it has not improved and today after King's national address, people are not convinced and satisfied with the content of the speech and political parties have already announced further demonstrations and rallies from tomorrow. So it seems we in Nepal are in for a long political turmoil. For the first time, US Embassy here have closed down its consular section until further notice, which would mean people having to travel to US now cannot get Visa till Embassy reopens its consular section. One of the direct affected person is me, because I was supposed to apply for my wife's visa for travelling to US coming end May to attend our daughter's graduation and now I do not know whether we will be able to travel to US for graduation.

Life is really bad with demonstration all over city, it is also unsafe to drive our own car for fear of being vandalized by the mob. So things are not looking that good and does not look that it will improve soon. We all are praying for peaceful solution even now and hope that king, present government and seven political parties leaders put aside everything for the betterment of Nepal.

with warm personal regards to you and Gina

Camp Goodtimes, June 29

Bellevue Rotary will again bring the best day of the whole summer to Camp Goodtimes on Vashon Island. Save Thursday, June 29th, for this fun event. We are expecting 140 kids with cancer, on or off treatment, and have arranged to rent carnival games for this day.

At least 40 Rotarians are needed to be at camp as carnie workers. Look for sign-up sheets in May or early June. Contact Charlotte Ellis if you have questions.
