Giving Women Power Over AIDS The purpose of the exhibit and educational forum on February 22nd was to promote the development of microbicides as an essential method to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Microbicides are defined as topical substances (creams or gels) developed to reduce transmission of HIV and other STDs. Cultural norms in many settings give women little power to determine the circumstances in which sex occurs and microbicides can provide the voluntary protection from HIV. They would be available for both vaginal and rectal use, thus benefiting both the straight and LGBTQ communities. Note of Thanks Regarding RYLA
