Elder & Adult Day Services
EADS is a free standing private not-for-profit organization providing non-residential, adult day health care for adults, ages 18100+, since 1984. What began as a small, social day center has grown into an award winning and nationally accredited day health program with four centers located in Bellevue, Bremerton, Des Moines, and Issaquah, WA.
Each year, hundreds of individuals and their family caregivers benefit from the structured activities, health and rehabilitation programs, and support services offered by EADS. These cost-effective, quality programs support families who choose to care for a loved one at home. The skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy with individualized treatment plans, delivered at the centers help adults in the community maintain optimum health and independence.
Funds received from this years Rotary Auction will be used to expand and improve the Bellevue Center and offer a specialized day time program for young developmentally disabled adults. Since 1995 EADS has been delivering these specialized services in the evenings to this population.
Olive Crest Homes & Services for Abused Children Larry Farr, Program Director
Olive Crest continues to promote the safety and wellness of children and families through innovative programs including specialized education, foster and adoption, family preservation, and residential homes. Olive Crest's outreach serves California, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest. The first Western Washington location opened in 1999 after the state of Washington contacted Olive Crest's main office in California. The need for individualized, theraputic foster care had grown considerably within our state and Olive Crest's reputation with treatment programs had peaked the interest of DCSH officials here.
Since opening in Bellevue, Olive Crest has also opened offices in Portland, Tacoma, and most recently in Spokane. Olive Crest's outreach serves California, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest. For more information, please call 1.800.74.FOSTER (743.6783), or visit www.olivecrest.org.
Service Above Self Day
Club Members:
As described at our last couple of Club meetings, this Saturday, January 21, has been declared "Service Above Self" day by Rotary International. We have been requested to focus some volunteer efforts for that day.
We have, therefore, arranged for volunteer opportunities that day.
One opportunity is in the morning or in the afternoon at the KidsQuest Children's Museum, one of our past funding partners, at the Factoria Mall location.
Second, Rotary First Harvest will be operating that day at its usual location.
Third, we have also been asked to, and have arranged to, deliver sheets and blankets that day (led by our productive procurer, BJ Rasmussen!) to the Bellevue YMCA for the benefit of "The Landing," which is the support location for Eastside homeless youth. Jim Hogue has been our Service To Youth Committee Chair, and has set this up.
Finally, we have a project to assist in planting 125 trees in a greenbelt in South Bellevue, off of Forest Drive. All the volunteers need to bring is gloves and suitable weather protection (and a waiver of liability form) for that one. Tools are provided by the Parks Department. Betty Nokes has arranged this one.
Please: (1) notify me if you are available to volunteer at KidsQuest, (2) notify Betty Nokes if you wish to participate in planting the greenbelt, and (3) notify Jim Hogue if you can drop off sheets and blankets at the YMCA.
Thanks in advance for your support of these causes, and of your support for the programs of Rotary International and the goals of our admired District Governor, our own, Sally Gray.
Pres. Ross BRC Donates to Youth Suicide Prevention Program Peter Wang
On average we lose two (2) young people to suicide each week in Washington State, but last year, east King County experienced the deaths of three (3) teenage boys to suicide within 6 weeks of each other! Those deaths have propelled schools and community groups into action. Sadly, very little was being done before they died.
Prevention education is now being offered to teens, their parents and educators so that they can better recognize the warning signs and know what to do to get help. But we still have a lot more work to do!
The BRC donation will help spread the word and we are most appreciative of the Youth Suicide Prevention Program and the wonderful work that Sue Eastgard, Executive Director, is accomplishing.
Past BRC President, Gary Bolyard (1979-1980), passed away on Wednesday, January 12th, in Wenatchee, WA. Memorial service information is unknown at this time. Gary appreciated the card and kind words he received from our members.
