Be a Rotary Mentor!

Katherine Thompson

GetInvolved5I am still seeking 3 or 4 mentors for the winter term at BCC. Class began this week.

As background, here is the official description of the course:

Catalog Description:  This course is designed to provide students with an experience that combines classroom learning, reading, technical skills, marketing, financial analysis, business process reengineering, consulting, and multicultural business management issues while working with a real business. In-class presentations and work sessions will revolve around the specific problems or opportunities each team is working on. The experience will help students gain practical experience in managing in a multicultural environment, consulting, and various aspects of marketing, financial, and business process analysis. Additionally, students will be able to link learning from a wide array of business disciplines to see how changes in one area affect the growth of the company as a whole. This integrative course will require students to use knowledge across business functional disciplines.

The class will be divided into 3 teams of 5 students.  The instructor will assign each team a business from the attached list to work with for their quarter project.  As listed, Projects 1, 2, & 3 are the most likely to be selected.  The business/team selection process will be complete next week. Each team will be paired with two Rotary mentors.

The role of the mentor is not so much to provide solutions as to keep the students on track (keep the project real and doable) and to provide resources.

Please contact me contact me (Ph 425 455 2555) if you have an interest in being a Rotary mentor.

PEN PAL PROJECT WITH NEPAL

The local article on the pen pal project was recently run in the Kathmandu Post. The article by Amy Roe, entitled "American Kids Make Friends in Nepal," was originally run in the Bellevue Reporter.

The Kathmandu paper also ran this article from their point of view about the arrival and distribution of the letters to the Nepali kids! Click on the image at right to open and read the latest article from the Kathmandu Post on the pen pal project.

NEW INFORMATION ON ACCOMMODATIONS AT Sun Valley
Scott East

SunValleyDebbie Acton has confirmed that she will be at Sun Valley when we are there, and she has an extra room for guests.  The bad news is that she must return on Saturday, February 4, so her guests wanting to stay over would have to make their own arrangements for Saturday night.

The good news is that Debbie can accommodate those who want to arrive a day early, Wednesday evening, in order to ski Thursday, February 2.  A few people plan to arrive in time to ski on Thursday, so anyone wanting to join us from Wednesday evening to Saturday morning would be a perfect fit!

Please email me if you have any questions.
