Rotaract Donut Sale A Sweet Success
by Cub Reporter Rob Rose

On Saturday, October 30th, the BCC Rotaract Club, along with Bellevue Rotary volunteer donut-eater Don Mings, sold 100 boxes of the sweet, circular wonders. These weren’t just any old donuts, mind you, but “Krispy Kreme” donuts (since 1937!). A total of $318 was raised to support the Rotaract international project, in cooperation with Bellevue Rotary Club, to help disabled and orphaned children in Nepal.

In consideration of the closeness to our national election, donut buyers were informally polled about their upcoming election choices. The results of this nonscientific poll were conclusive: nine out of ten donut purchasers were going to vote for George W. Kerry ... or was it John Bush? Oh, well, as I said, this wasn’t a scientific poll anyway. One thing we can say with certainty is that no matter how the vote came in, those lucky purchasers of the BCC Rotaract Krispy Kreme donuts had the calories necessary to actually make it to the polls, plus they helped out needy children in Nepal!

More project updates will be forthcoming when they happen, where they happen, and as space allows.

Vietnam1Vietnam Water Project

In coordination with the Care to Help Project, the World Community Service Committee of the Bellevue Rotary Club is sponsoring a water project in a Vietnam village called B'Dor, an ethnic minority village of about 2000 people that currently does not have a source for safe drinking, cooking or bathing water. B'Dor is about 80 miles south of Da Lat, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

Care to Help Project Director Scott Mantz will be providing photos and progress reports throughout the duration of this project.
