Bellevue & Monroe Hit One Special thanks to all of the members of the Bellevue and Monroe Rotary Clubs who really stepped up to the plate and contributed the big hits for this years very successful raffle for The Miracle League. It was a real team victory! Don Mings presented a check for $21,800 to Monroe President Colette Reams. Shown in the picture are: Ruthann Tobiason, Patsy Cudaback, Ric Carlson, Sue Skillen, Tod Johnson, and President Colette Reams from Monroe Rotary and Don Mings and President Katherine Thompson from Bellevue Rotary. The Rotary Club of Monroe has formed Miracle League, a youth baseball league for children with special needs. The Miracle League provides children, facing serious physical and mental disabilities, the opportunity to play baseball. These youngsters, many of whom have profound physical and cognitive challenges, have never had an opportunity to do the one thing all kids should get to experience: playing team sorts, wearing a team uniform, having a grownup con can call coach, play ball while your parents and all the other kids are cheering you on, having a post-game treat with your teammates. Monroe Rotary organized the Miracle League six years ago and during the first season there were seven kids. This year 45 kids participated at Monroe and the Kirkland Rotary Club has organized a Miracle League with 35 kids participating. Monroe Rotary is raising funds to build the first Miracle League field in Washington and on the West Coast. The Rotary Field will serve the entire Northwest region with the primary focus of providing Miracle League teams a place to play. The Clearing and Grading Permits has been submitted and the funds from this years raffle will be used for the construction of the Rotary Field. Benevolent Fund for Abraham Dut Jok A Benevolent Fund has been established for Abraham Dut Jok, the young man one of the Boys of Sudan who was our speaker a few weeks ago. Several members requested that an account be established for donations to defray the cost of his college education. The account has been set up at Washington Trust Bank. Laurie Laurson has deposit slips, and Ross McIvor and Katherine Thompson are signers. Larry Abner will be the point person to administer the funds on Dut Jok's behalf. Corporate Match Programs We are trying to build a list of all the companies within the Bellevue Rotary Club that have corporate match programs. Corporate match programs are where a company will match a certain percentage of charitable contributions by its employees. If your company has such a program, please email David Laub, Foundation Committee Chairperson.
