Liu1Susan Liu
Team Member

Susan Liu is a QA Engineer for Blue Nile, Inc. Blue Nile is located in Seattle and is the online leader in the diamond and fine jewelry category.

Susan was born and raised in the Seattle area, spending her school years in Renton, Washington. Susan graduated from Seattle University with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in International Business. Upon graduation, she fell into the technology field after a last minute decision to not attend Law school.  After working for a few other dot-coms, she decided to come work at Blue Nile in 2000 and has been there ever since.

On the weekends, she teaches Sunday school and mentors at University Presbyterian Church. After teaching only 4th grade girls for 3 years, she decided to move up in grades with one special group of girls and has been moving up with them for the last few years and continues growing with her special group of girls.

She is excited and honored to be part of the GSE group going to East Africa. The trip will be a reality to a dream she has had since a child after being touched by the famine in Ethiopia in the early 80’s. Since her first introduction to Africa, she has spent numerous hours researching the countries, culture, people, and government to better understand a continent touched by so many hardships. She is looking forward to having a first hand view of the country and all that it has to offer.

Susan’s other interests include traveling, hiking, running, yoga, and reading.

Twin Club Relationship Established
By Rob Rose

It's official! As you can see in the note (below) from Susan Scneider, International Support Center, Rotary International, we have established a twin-club relationship with the Rotary Club of Patan in Kathmandu, Nepal. This formalizes our long-standing friendship and cooperation that we have achieved on the many wonderful humanitarian endeavors over the past seven years. We can truly celebrate Rotary through our mutual accomplishments.

Congratulations to your club on establishing a Twin Club relationship to celebrate Rotary's centennial!

After receiving all completed Twin Club Report Forms, in January 2005, RI will provide the 2004-05 district governors with banner patches to distribute to clubs that have successfully formed Twin Club partnerships. Your club should receive a banner patch as recognition of your accomplishment in completing a special program or project to celebrate Rotary's century of service.

RI President Glenn E. Estess, Sr., joins me in commending your club members for their commitment to Rotary service. I send you best wishes for a long and prosperous Twin Club relationship!

Kind regards,
Susan Schneider, Supervisor
International Support Section

Auction Beneficiary Selection

It is now the time of year to select the "primary beneficiary" for our 2005 Bellevue Rotary Auction.

If you are a member of, or involved with, a worthy charitable organization, or if there is an organization that you believe would be a good primary beneficiary of the Auction proceeds, please forward the contact information for that organization to Ross Jacobson. The organization will be contacted directly and asked to submit a request to us to be considered as beneficiary.

Please keep in mind that our primary beneficiary is likely to be an organization that can also support the Auction and the fund raising by bringing its supporters to the April 23, 2005 Auction event.

If you have questions, please contact Ross Jacobson.

Invite to India

All BRC members are cordially invite you to go along with Nancy Pasternak to India in late October/early November to witness how BRC funds are spent to help extremely poor women to start their own businesses. When they repay the loans to purchase a sewing machine, a water buffalo to sell its milk, a grinding machine to grind spices, or a cart to salvage and sell junk (for example), the funds grow and are recycled. In groups they improve their living conditions, and their children, formerly indentured laborers, can go to school. Interviewing the women who receive our loans is truly an inspiring and uplifting experience. Some of them are tribal, some dahlits (the lowest caste) — all are/were abjectly poor.

Nancy will be going the end of October and early November for approximately two weeks. If you wish to go along, you will need to apply for a visa at this time. Please contact Nancy for exact dates, help with the visa application and other specific information.
