Sol Returns Home
Submitted by Nancy Pasternak

x0726Sol1Sol Rengel, our Argentinian exchange student, said goodbye at the Rotary meeting Tuesday with an excellent slide presentation of many of her experiences.

Sol and the Youth Exchange Committee, on behalf of the entire Bellevue Rotary Club, would like to recognize and thank her two host families — Kim, Janis, Brett and Michael Wold and Katherine Michaud, Mark Silver, Ryan and Amy.  These two families, both from our club, were exemplary in making all the adjustments and accommodations that accompany this huge responsibility and were the major factor in making Sol's stay a positive and memorable one.  We thank you and applaud your service day in and day out during two different shifts for each family throughout the year.

EADS Expresses Thanks
Submitted by Phil Bevan, Community Grants Chairperson

Elder and Adult Day Services expressed their appreciation of the BRC's $10,000 donation with a plaque that has recently been hung in our honor. Accordinging to Paula Hardy, EADS Communications Director, "Everyone thought it quite striking. It really stands out on our wall."

With the donation, the organization was able to purchase six new PC’s, two laptops, internet connectivity hardware, a server, office application upgrades, server software and upgrade other systems. The software alone was valued at over $12,000. EADS now has the capacity to deploy a private extranet for their staff and Board, consolidate data and information systems, and centralize documents and records, while increasing information sharing throughout the organization.

"None of this would be possible without Bellevue Rotary and District 5030 funds," said Paua Hardy, "With your help, we are able to improve our service delivery through more efficient operations and continue our mission of caring."

Missionary Trip To Belize
Submitted by Peter Kalunian

x072Belize1aVolunteers are needed for a medical and construction missionary trip to Belize in January 2006. Many Rotarians have  participated in previous trips and, Rotary grants have supported building a school computer lab and medical supplies. The trip is sponsored by the Anglican Diocese of Belize and will be our sixth year returning to Belize.

The medical team dates are January 15-22, and the construction team dates will be January 22-30, 2006. Both teams will be located in Dangriga, about 100 miles south of Belize City, located on the Caribbean Sea. The weather in January will be in the 70’s, with a gentle ocean breeze. A pleasure day is also planned.

Medical specialists in the areas of dermatology, family medicine, gastroenterology, ENT, neurology, pediatrics, orthopedics, urology, and plastic surgery are needed. Daily clinics will be held at the Southern Regional Hospital and teams will also visit local villages. Nurses and non-medical personnel are also needed.

The construction team will repair two Anglican Schools. Both non-skilled and skilled labors are needed.

Both teams will be staying in a hotel that has hot water and air conditioning.

For further information contact: The Rev. Dr. Peter Kalunian (Ph 206-854-0612).

Rotary Cares Committee

The Family of Rotary supports our members. If you know a Rotarian who is experiencing personal health issues, if they have an immediate family member that is ill, if there has been a death in their family, or they are experiencing a crisis in their business or job, please notify committee chair Katherine Thompson. Our club supports our members during times of joy, too, so send along those moments to celebrate — the birth of children, weddings, and milestone anniversaries.
