AUction Item of the Week!
This is not a simulator. Put on your flight suit, get a helmet and parachute, as you begin ground school and pre-briefing. Learn basic air combat maneuvers, then take to the air with your experienced pilot/instructor for six aerial dogfights. You will take the controls of a high-performance, Italian-built Marchetti SF260 fighter aircraft maneuvered by the stick grip, complete with gun trigger, identical to the F4 Phantom. Cockpit cameras will record the action, including a gunsight mounted camera that captures the sights and sounds of every kill. Get ready for the most memorable experience of your life! Donor(s): Air Combat USA Thoughts on Inspiration
I constantly feed from the inspiration received from others. I think about what others have done and are doing, and try to bend the light of their efforts to focus on my own projects. To my Rotary and Rotaract friends, to my family and other friends: you are my guides, my mentors, the source of my strength and inspiration. I thank you all for honoring me with your love and friendship. On this trip, I wish to acknowledge an inspiration to myself and others, who recently passed away: Dick Ryen, from Emerald City Rotary Club. Dick was a part of my life for a relatively short time, but in that time, we became good friends, and as happens with good friends, we shared positive experiences and some difficult times. I would liken him to my own dad, whom I would describe as a great guy and a nice person, who thought of others and was well thought of by many. Maybe that description doesnt sound like a tremendous accolade, but I would be more than satisfied myself to be described thusly. I am dedicating this, my fifth trip to Nepal, to Dick Ryen. If a recently-applied-for matching grant is approved by the Rotary Foundation, a library in a Nepali public school will be dedicated to Dick in his memory. Some final thoughts as I sit in the Hong Kong airport, awaiting my flight to Mumbai (Bombay) may it serve as some bit of inspiration to others. To those who have already enriched their lives through their Rotary experiences, I congratulate you! To those who want to join in, but arent sure how, or how they will find the time, Rotary is a vehicle through which good can happen. Today we are alive, today we can affect positive change. Put yourself out there , show your humanity, take a risk. If you can dream it, you can do it! Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics Event Special Olympics has requested BRC support for the aquatics event, Saturday, April 16, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way. It is a large event with a large number of volunteers needed, with rapidly rising costs. Special Olympics would be very happy to have Bellevue Rotary as the sponsor of the event and would welcome 20-40+ volunteers to work that date. Volunteers will definitely be warmer than they would have been on the ski slopes! The event will last all day, from approximately 8:00 am until 5:00 or 6:00 pm. All-day volunteers are preferred, but shifts can be taken if necessary. Thank you for Bellevue Rotarys continued support of the athletes of Special Olympics Washington! The volunteers had fun last year and, of course, the athletes always do. Please contact Tom Eckhart to volunteer or to receive more information. NEWS RELEASE 2006-07 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship Applications Now Available The scholarships, which are designed to further international understanding and goodwill, provide for study aboard in more than 10 countries where Rotary clubs are located. Some 1,300 scholarships of various types will be available from clubs worldwide. During their studies aboard, Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars act as ambassadors of goodwill. Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for one academic year aboard and provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, some educational supplies, and language training (if necessary) up to a maximum award of $25,000. Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are flat grants of $12,000 per year for two years toward the cost of a degree program in another country. Also available are Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships which provide funding for six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country, including transportation, tuition, and home stay expenses, up to a maximum of $19,000. For more information and an application please contact Sandra Olson-Meyer (Ph 425-285-2330 or 1930 116th Ave NE, Ste 201, Bellevue, WA 98004). Interested students may also want to consult the Rotary website, where the application may be downloaded. The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships program is the worlds largest privately sponsored international scholarship program. Focused on humanitarian service, personal diplomacy, and academic excellence, the program has sponsored more than 30,000 Rotary Scholars aboard since it began in 1947.
Come to Camp Goodtimes this year on Wednesday, June 22. Plan to spend the day on Vashon Island. Bellevue Rotary members will once again put on a rip roaring, way cool, action packed carnival garnished at the end with lots of whipped cream. Sign up anytime with Charlotte Ellis, or check out the table flyers in late May/early June. Spouses and teens can help too. Help us out! Come to camp for half days on June 20, 21 and 24!
Saddle up for a great day in the country! This spring, you and your fellow Rotarians are invited on a trail ride for fun and fellowship. Date and place are yet to be determined. You will need your own horse! Contact Dean Rebhuhn or Peter Hammett for details. |
