Bellevue Superintendent of Schools
"Bellevue Schools: New Developments and Return on Investment"

MikeRiley1Michael Riley is in his ninth year as superintendent of the Bellevue School District.  During his time there, his mission has been developing the curriculum, staff development programs, and student support systems to give every student the type of education that ensures success in college.  Eighty-one percent of the district’s Class of 2004 completed at least one Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate course; forty-two percent completed four or more.   

Riley taught English for twelve years and was an assistant principal in Chicago.  He served as a high school principal for nine years and as an assistant superintendent for three during his time in Maryland.  He holds a master’s degree in English from DePaul University and a Ph.D. in educational administration with a concentration in research from Loyola University Chicago.  He is married to a special education teacher and his daughter is a photojournalist in the Boston area.

January 22, 2005 • 10:00 am to closing

Ski with the experts or learn to cross country ski.  Join Club members and their families for a day at the Cross Country Ski Center at Summit East- Snoqualmie Summit.  Take the chair lift to the high trails or take a free lesson on an easy trail.  Ski rentals are available. 6:00-10:00 pm, February 3

Reservations for this quickly-approaching event can be made by contacting District Governor Kathy Johnson (Ph 425-922-3638). Cost for this event is $70 per person, and meal selection must be made at the time of reservation, selecting from the following: filet mignon, chicken breast, or mushroom wellington. No host cocktails are at 6:00 and dinner is at 7:00. Dress is black tie optional.

Special Olympics Winter Ski Event

This year's Special Olympics Winter Ski Event will be held February 13 at Snoqualmie Pass. Volunteers should contact Tom Eckhart.

Crystal Mountain Ski Fellowship

It's time once again for the annual Crystal Mountain Ski Fellowship! Dates for this overnight event are Tuesday, March 8 (after work), and Wednesday, March 9, 2005, the ski day. Most skiers will return that evening,. Some skiers and non-skiers will return shortly after breakfast or lunch.

AnimSkiing1If you are planning to attend the ski fellowship this year, send an email to Scott East with as much information as you can now pin down, such as departure time on Tuesday afternoon, whether you can/want to drive or prefer to be a passenger, and when you plan to return on Wednesday, e.g., before breakfast, mid-morning, after lunch, at end of ski day. Carpools will be formed from the information received.
